Distribution:


Bismarck Archipelago (New Britain, New Ireland, possibly New Hanover); also Karkar Island off the NE coast of New Guinea.


Status:


Not globally threatened. CITES II. Least concern.

The population is suspected to be stable in the absence of evidence for any declines or substantial threats.


Description:


  • length: 17cm (6,7 inch)
  • Weight: 33-40 gr.


Red chin and red at the side of the lower mandible.

The rest is green.

Paler green on the underparts.

Bluish green on the ear coverts, which are faintly streaked with pale green.

Underwing coverts are yellowish green. The underside of the flight feathers are marked with yellow.

Green tail, tipped with yellow, the inner webs of the feathers are red at the base.

The bill is orange-red.

Legs are orange.

The iris is orange-red.
